Cordless ultrasonic cutters are great, allowing you to do even the smallest cuts with incredible precision, making it an amazing tool for crafting, 3D printing, and various kinds of prototyping. Problem is, it’s very susceptible to heat buildup, forcing users to rest it every few minutes or so. The SonicMax Slice 10 is designed to solve that problem.
Designed for long sessions, the device retains the same benefits as other cordless ultrasonic cutters, so you get the freedom to move, while producing more effortless cuts and overall cleaner work. Unlike them, it manages heat a whole lot better, allowing you to work for far longer without the darn overheating.
The SonicMax Slice 10 has a pen-like form factor that makes it easy to hold in hand while cutting through whatever materials you’re using for a project. It uses a high-efficiency transducer that, the outfit claims, is up to 2.5 times more efficient than competing products. As such, there’s less energy wasted in the form of heat. Instead of using a fixed power level like other cutters, it starts at a default level and detects feedback from the material it’s cutting. Then, it dials up or dials down the power and frequency depending on its reading, eliminating all that wasted power that would otherwise aid in unwanted heat buildup. According to the outfit, it has a maximum power output of 50W and a maximum frequency of 40,000 vibrations per second, allowing it to cut through a whole host of materials in short order.
To further improve thermal management, they added a cooling fan, so it’s able to draw out hot air on the fly, allowing it to run for much longer before really heating up. It also gets an OLED display on the body that shows the power level it’s running at and the current battery level, so you know how much power you’re working with at any time.
The SonicMax Slice 10 as a built-in sensor that detects when you’ve set it down on the table, which prompts it to automatically power down the motor. When you pick up, it quickly starts running again, with no need to press the power button. That means, if want to shut it for good, just press the power button to turn it off before setting down. It’s powered by a 5,000 mAh 21700 battery, which you can recharge to 100 percent in 70 minutes. However, since it uses a standard 21700 cell, you can also swap in a fresh one if you’re rather not wait for the whole thing to recharge. Alternatively, it can also run in corded mode, so you can keep working while it’s charging, ensuring zero downtime, regardless of whether you have extra batteries or not.
In case you need extra illumination when you’re cutting, by the way, it comes with a built-in LED light that you can manually turn on and off. The tool comes with 10 spare blades, a blade block, a hex wrench, fastening screws, and a power cable.
