Logitech Signature Slim Solar+ K980 Will Stay Charged at All Times

Wireless keyboards are great for clearing off wire mess from your desk. Problem is, wireless peripherals require regular charging, which can get inconvenient once you have half a dozen devices that require plugging in. The Logitech Signature Slim Solar+ K980 looks to eliminate one device from your charging schedule.

A solar-powered wireless keyboard, the device can use any light source to replenish its battery stores, allowing it to stay charged for indefinite periods, so long as you don’t spend your days working in a pitch black room. That’s right, it’s a wireless keyboard you’ll never need to plug in, since the darn thing can charge on its own, so long as there’s some amount of light getting in the room.

The Logitech Signature Slim Solar+ K980 is a full-size wireless keyboard with 108 keys, with a dedicated number pad and a full row of function keys. It has a built-in rechargeable battery rated to last up to 10 years, so you can keep this as part of your setup for quite a long time. Of course, the big feature here is the Logi LightCharge tech, a light-absorbing strip situated right above the function keys. According to the outfit, this solar strip can generate power from any light source 200 lux and higher, allowing it to draw power from most any kind of indoor lighting. Once fully-charged, the outfit claims the integrated battery holds enough charge to let you use the keyboard for up to four months in complete darkness. Simply put, this is the kind of wireless keyboard that will likely never run out of charge, so long as you continue using it.

Do note, if it does run out of power (say, you kept it untouched in a dark closet for a year), you will need to expose it to light in order to recharge. That’s because there’s no USB port on this thing, although it should be able to replenish enough to be in a usable state in just a few minutes of light exposure.

The Logitech Signature Slim Solar+ K980 is equipped with scissor switch keys, which, the outfit claims, gives it a laptop-like quiet feel, while offering key customizations via the Logi Options+ app. Like most of the outfit’s wireless keyboards, it can pair with up to three devices at the same time, allowing you to easily switch typing from one device to another. It works with different operating systems, too, allowing you to use it with Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, iOS, iPadOS, and Android.

Dimensions are 17 x 5.6 x 0.8 inches (width x depth x thickness), so it gets a very slim profile, all while weighing 24.7 ounces. Other features include a dedicated AI launch key, dedicated action shortcuts, switches rated for 10 million keystrokes, and an IR dongle if you prefer a non-Bluetooth connection. The battery can be replaced, by the way, in case it ever conks out, requiring you to simply unscrew the back of the case to swap in a fresh cell.

The Logitech Signature Slim Solar+ K980 is available now, priced at $99.99.
