It looks like a desktop USB mic. Or a tube-shaped webcam. Or a desk-mounted spot light. Or even a desktop cannon. However, the Razer Nommo V2 Pro is none of those things. Instead, it’s a PC speaker that’s designed with gaming setups in mind.
Billed to deliver “powerful audio” and “positional precision,” the device offers an alternative to gaming headphones, allowing you to enjoy your games with full auditory awareness without having to be bogged down by large cans over your ears. Whether you want to have your game sounds circulating throughout the room, annoy your roommates with loud explosion and gunshot sounds, or watch movies on the PC without having to wear constricting headphones, this thing lets you do that with a full-range, fully-loaded speaker setup.
The Razer Nommo V2 Pro consists of two tube-shaped speakers on individual stands and a box-shaped wireless subwoofer. The speakers are fitted with three-inch full-range drivers that produce clear and accurate sound, while aluminum phase plugs minimize sound reflections within each speaker. The down-firing subwoofer, on the other hand, uses a 5.5-inch driver to whip out a rich, powerful bass with thumping lows. Together, the erstwhile 2.1 setup is able to deliver 7.1 surround sound via THX Spatial Audio, enabling it to produce a natural, detailed, and lifelike sound experience across different games, music, and movies. Do note, the Spatial Audio is only activated on PC via the Razer Synapse software, so you can’t just use it with any device (like a TV) and get that full multidimensional sound experience.
With the Synapse software, users also get access to THX Game Profiles, which allows you to apply custom-tuned profiles to each individual game. In Environmental Mode, the speaker can customize the sound to produce acoustics that reflect both your in-game surroundings and localized enemy audio for more precise directional sound, while Competitive Mode will boost enemy audio and reduce low-frequency sounds (e.g. explosions), making it easier to hear footsteps, reloads, and other character sound effects.
The Razer Nommo V2 Pro, naturally, comes with Chroma RGB, so you get all those multi-color lighting to really accentuate the in-game action. Instead of simply having LEDs in the back, though, it uses projection lighting that it beams straight to whatever surfaces you’ve got right behind the speakers. According to Razer, they have countless patterns designed to enhance immersion with dynamic light effects. The speakers, by the way, come with one of the outfit’s Wireless Control Pods, a wireless knob control that can be used to adjust settings for volume, audio EQ, RGB lighting, and more.
Like many Razer accessories, this is best used with a PC, although these are still speakers, so it should work with other devices, too, albeit not with the full feature set in tow. According to the outfit, it can work wirelessly for gaming on the Nintendo Switch and most mobile devices, as well as with the PS4 and the PS5 over USB.
The Razer Nommo V2 Pro is available now.
